Centenary Out Slugs Blue & Gold

Box Score

FLEMINGTON, NJ – Maine-Presque Isle hit well, but could not hold down the sticks of Centenary College, dropping the game 13-7 Wednesday afternoon.

The scoring started early as Owls senior pitcher surrendered a two-run homerun in the first and five runs on five hits in the second inning, as the Presque Isle Baseball Team found themselves in an early hole.  Senior Cam Morrell hit a double down the line in the third to drive in Shane Smith and Justin Bergeron in the third to cut into the lead.

After a three up, three down bottom half, the Owl's bats went back to work.  Sophomore Tommy Collins ripped a triple to right-center to drive in two, senior Justin Bergeron drove him in with a single, and senior Josiah Brazier followed that up with an RBI double of his own.

Centenary would not let the game stay tight for long as they took advantage of an Owls error in the bottom half of the fourth and used three hits to drive in five runs and open up a comfortable lead they would hold for the rest of the game.

Collins ended the day two for four at the plate with three RBI, and Bergeron ended up two for five with an RBI.  Worster took the loss on the mound for the Owls.

"The guys showed a lot of heart fighting back in this one," said Coach Pankow of his team's effort.  "Dylan [Worster] wasn't as sharp as normal and was put in a tough situation of having to wait all week to get his start because of the weather and schedule changes.  He did a nice job of battling through it, but in the end Centenary is hits the ball too well to not be on top of your game."
