Berkeley College Knocks off Owls 86 to 55

Presque Isle, ME – The UMaine-Presque Isle Owls (9 -12) faced off against the high scoring Berkeley College Knights (15 -4 ) in a Sunday afternoon non-conference game at Wieden Hall Gymnasium and Berkely pulled away in the second half for an 86 to 55 win.

The 1st half saw the Knight's get out to a quick 9 to 0 lead before Will Griffiths (Jr. Queens, NY) scored on a jumper on a feed from Griffin Guerrette. Two minutes later Parker Onorato knocked down a jumper off a pass from Te'Von Hines, and KJ Minter scored on a drive and a Minter free throw to made it 11 to 7 in favor of the visitors. The Knight's Nicholas Cora would score inside and both teams would cool off shooting over the next 2:30 when Berkely's Larence Horner would score a layup to put the Knight's up 15 to 7.

Berkeley's lead would grow to 20 to 7 before Griffin Guerrette would connect on a long 3 pointer. At the 7:05 mark of the opening half, Luke Petersen would drain a 3 on the assist from Guerrette trimming the Knight's lead to 28 to 19. A Shyquinn Dix 3 pointer off another Guerrette assist would bring the Owls to within 31 to 24 with 5 minutes remaining. Berkeley would finish the half strong and go into the break with a 44 to 30 lead.

A Te'Von Hines strong drive to the rim and score at the 15:38 mark of the 2nd half had UMPI still down by 14 points 48 to 34. The Knight's would finish on a fastbreak layup by Deylon Bovell followed by a 3 pointer from Ricardo Ayuso and Berkeley would lengthen their lead to 53 to 34. The Owls subbed freely throughout the game and would hit a 3 minute window without scoring and the Knight's would slowly put the game away.

For UMPI, Griffin Guerrette (Fr. Presque Isle, ME) led the way offensively with 14 points and 5 assists. Luke Petersen (So. Perth, Australia) added 8 points and Parker Onorato (Fr. Bath, ME) had 6. Eleven players hit the scoring column for the Owls.

Berkeley College was paced by 6'6" junior forward Nicholas Cora with 20 points and 5 rebounds and 6'5" guard Ricardo Ayuso scored 11. The Knight's boasted a lineup that included 6'11 Larence Horner and 6'9" Stevaun Latouche.
