Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Washington, DC - The University of Maine-Presque Isle Baseball Team played Marymount University tough into the bottom of the 6th inning when the Saints' scored 5 runs to take a commanding 9 to 0 lead at that point of Friday's 9 inning Non-Conference game. The game was played at the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy in Washington, DC.

Marymount seniors Luke Tyree and Conner Hall led off with back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the 1st inning to get runners in scoring position for teammate Austin Sizemore. Sizemore then hit a deep double over UMPI centerfielder Justin Mason's head to plate both runners for an early 2-0 lead. The Saints would add a run in the second inning when junior Will DiGiulian came home on a wild pitch and add a run in the 4th on a sacrafice fly by Hall.

Marymount's 6'4" lefty Kenny Frank kept the Owls at bay, only allowing three hits and two walks over six innings of work. He struck out five on the way to his first win of the season. Junior Justin DiDonato and sophomore Bryce Smith combined to pitch three innings in relief, preserving the shutout. Smith, a hard throwing lefty, came on in the ninth, striking out three to secure the victory for the Saints'.

Colby Spencer (So. Swan Quarter, NC) (0-2) started on the mound for the Owls. Spencer was keeping his team in the ballgame until he got drilled with a line drive back up the middle and off his shoulder in the bottom of the 4th inning. Spencer had to leave the game. He was credited with 3 walks and 3 strike outs while allowing 6 hits before his departure. Roberto De La Pena (Jr. Porterville, CA) came on in relief followed by Braydon Kennedy (Fr. Titusville, FL), Jordan Young (Fr. Graham, NC) and Austin Coulston (So Bullhead City, AZ). Young pitched a scoreless 7th inning and Coulston recorded 2 strikouts and 2 walks in the 8th.

UMPI had six hits on the windy afternoon with second-baseman Brad Patterson (Jr. Harker Heights, TX) ripping two long doubles both to deep right-centerfield. Ryan Sanderson (Sr. Cow Bay, NS), Richard Coulston (Fr. Bullhead City, AZ), Alexe De La Pena (So. Porterville, CA) and leftfielder Jordan Hanscom (So. Linclon, ME) each had singles for the Owls.
