Owls Women's Basketball Host First Home Game on New Wieden Court

PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The Owls women's basketball team hosted the first game in the UMPI Athletics newly renovated Wieden Gymnasium. The Owls hosted North Atlantic Conference cross-divisional opponent SUNY Cobleskill in their first home game of the year. The Owls lost to the Fighting Tigers 87-79. This loss brings the Owls to 5-6 and 0-2 in the NAC.

The Owls found themselves up at the half, outscoring the Tigers 30-28 going into the half. It was the Tigers that would bounce back in the third period, scoring 21 points and holding the Owls to 17 to take the lead. Eventually putting the game away in the fourth quarter. The tight game ended with nine ties and eight lead changes. The Fighting Tigers finished the game shooting 50% from the field and 36% from the field as the Owls shot 44% from the field and 33.3% from the three.

Emily Wheaton led the Owls with 30 points, highlighted by her perfect 8-8 shooting from the free throw line while also adding eight assists with only one turnover. Alexis Ireland finished the game with 20 points and eight rebounds, scoring off 7-15 shooting from the field. Jelecia Ma'Gee-Hodges finished the game with 12 points and eight rebounds off 50% shooting.

The Owls will continue their cross divisional play as they host SUNY Delhi to finish their doubleheader weekend. Game starts at 1:00PM.
