Owls Sweep the Weekend in a Pair of Big Wins

Three Owls Player Record Double-Doubles in UMPI Win

PRESQUE ISLE, MAINE – The Owls women's basketball team sweeps the weekend after back-to-back wins in the U-Maine at Farmington Tip-Off Tournament. After beating the Falcons of Fisher 67-24 the Owls completed the weekend sweep with a 106-88 win over the Bison of Nichols College. This win advances the Owls to 2-1 on the year.
 
The Owls came out of the jump with some lockdown defense, allowing just six points and just three field goals allowed in the first quarter, while putting up 28 points. The early lead was led by Aleia Milano's 14 points in the first ten minutes. The Owls entered the half with a 57-37 lead. UMPI continued to distribute the ball among the team as they kept their 20-point lead throughout the game.
 
All five Owls starters finished the game in double figures. Milano led with a game high 33 points, while securing nine rebounds and dishing out six assists. Alexis Ireland finished the game with a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 17 rebounds. Indya Smith also recorded a double-double with 17 points and 14 boards, also nearly earning the triple double as she finished with nine assists. Kourtney West, another Owls player with a double-double, with 12 points and 16 rebounds. Olivia Gray was the other Owls player to finish in double figures, with 13 points on 4-6 shooting.
 
Next Up: The Owls will head on the road to face off against another U-Maine System opponent in U-Maine Augusta on Tuesday.
