Owls Battle with the Eagles

BANGOR, MAINE – The Owls baseball team battled with the Husson University Eagles in a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader. The Owls would fall in both games, despite another tough performance on the mound for senior Payton Jones. The Owls fell in the first game 0-11 and the second 3-4 in extra innings.

Game 1: 0-11 Eagles

The first game was all Eagles, starting on the Mound as Smith earned the win, pitching the first five innings, allowing just six hits and striking out four batters, the Eagles two other pitchers would come in and allow zero hits in the remaining two innings. First year Garrett Chadwick would get the start for the Owls, pitching the first three innings and Spencer Harman would finish the game in the remaining three innings, allowing just one earned run and two hits.

Game 2: 3-4 Eagles

The Owls started it off in the first inning, scoring the first run of the game off a Timothy Burns single up the middle, scoring Joey Lippo to give the Owls the early lead. In the third Payton Jones would bring in two runs off a single to center field to give UMPI the 3-0 lead.

With Jones on the mound for the Owls, the team's defense was strong throughout the game. Jones would face 28 batters and allow just six hits and three earned runs. The first run allowed was in the fifth on a groundout. Another two runs came in the 8th inning off a 2-RBI single to tie the game, before heading into the final inning. Dakota Morrow would come in for Jones to pitch the remaining three innings, as he battled with the Eagles in the back and forth match up. It would take two extra innings before the Eagles were able to bring in the game winning run in, off a single to left field.
