Owls Fall to the Beavers in First Home Game of the Year

PRESQUE ISLE, MAINE – The Owls men's soccer team hosted their home opener vs fellow U-Maine System opponent, the University of Maine at Farmington in a non-conference match up. The Owls fell to the Beavers 5-1 in the high intensity game. This loss brings the Owls to 0-2-0 and the Beavers 1-2-0 on the year.

The Owls came out of the gate with a high energy on both ends of the field as some early defensive pressure led them to an open goal opportunity that was stopped by an international handball by UMF. This resulted in a red card for the Beavers and a penalty kick opportunity for Remar Shirly to earn the goal that was blocked. Shirly made the penalty shot to put the Owls up in just the 5th minute of the game. The Beavers would bounce back immediately with a goal in the 7th minute to tie that game.

UMF would go on to score another goal in the 18th minute and in the 40th minute to put them up 3-1 going into the half. In the second half, the teams were neck and neck on their pressure in the opposing goal as the Owl shad the slight advantage with five shots to the Beavers four. Although, the Beavers were able to put two more goals on the board in the second half.

The Beavers finished the game with 12 total shots, eight on goal to the Owls 11 shots and five on goal.

Next Up: The owls will head to Waterville to take on Thomas College in a non-conference match up this weekend.
