Owls Fly Past Eagles in NAC Play

BANGOR, MAINE – The Owls men's basketball team traveled to face off against the Eagles of Husson University in a North Atlantic Conference match up. The Eagles currently sit at the number one spot in the NAC East Division, as the Owls are tied for second, heading into the game. The Owls came away with the victory to move to 4-4 in the NAC, handing the Eagles their first divisional loss of the season.

The first half of play, the Eagles had the upper hand, and they maintained a small lead throughout the half, going into the half with a five-point lead, holding the Owls to just 25 points. The Owls picked up their offense in the second half, as they score 50 points and held the Eagles to 37. Holding the Eagles to just two points in the final three minutes to help secure the win.

Coming off the bench was Doug McCalla, the Owls leading scorer, with 18 points and grabbing 13 rebounds and dishing out four assists, adding a steal and a block to his stat sheet. Gilbert Jean Mendez scored 16 points off 50% shooting from both the field and from behind the arc, hitting three 3's on the game, while also dishing out a team high six assists. Defensively the Eagles honed in on UMPI leading scorer Dany Harris, he still managed to score 13 points on an efficient 4-5 shooting and a perfect 2-2 from the three. Harris also grabbed seven rebounds and finished with two steals.
 

Next Up: The Owls will head to Fort Kent to face off in an Aroostook County match up on Friday.
