PRESQUE ISLE, MAINE - In an exciting women's basketball game, the Owls of the University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI) hosted the University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves in their first game of the spring semester. The Owls emerged victorious with a convincing 67-45 win, improving their overall record to 8-3 on the year.
The teams had a back-and-forth battle early in the game, with the Owls holding a slim 4-point lead after the first quarter. However, they managed to slightly boost their lead in the second quarter, heading into halftime with a 33-27 point advantage.
The real turning point came in the third quarter, where UMPI's defense held the Seawolves to a remarkable 0 points. The Seawolves struggled, going 0-16 from the field, allowing UMPI to score 14 points and extend their lead. UMPI maintained control in the fourth quarter, handling the Seawolves' pressure and securing the victory.
Alexis Ireland had an outstanding performance, leading all scorers with 22 points and an impressive 20 rebounds. She shot efficiently, going 7-15 from the field and a perfect 8-8 from the free-throw line. Aleia Milano also contributed significantly with 21 points and recorded a double-double by grabbing 10 rebounds.
As a team, the Owls showcased their free-throw prowess by shooting a perfect 14-14 from the free-throw line. Overall, it was a dominating performance by UMPI, securing a well-deserved win in their first game of the spring semester.
