FARMINGTON, ME
The University of Maine at Presque Isle Women's Basketball Team traveled down to Farmington to play in the UMF Tournament. On Friday night, they'd take on the University of Maine at Augusta for the second straight game.
The Owls kept things close early unlike the last matchup with the Moose, but UMA continue to have a slight edge throughout. The Owls trailed 23-20 after one and that deficit grew to 10 points at half. The Owls shot well in the first quarter going 7-15 before finishing the day trending in the wrong direction shooting 27% the last three quarters. The Moose never fully dominated the Owls but just outscored UMPI by a slim margin in all four quarters. The Owls were unable to surmount a comeback this time and fell by a score of 77-62.
Top Performers:
As the headline suggests, UMPI had some solid individual performances. The Owls were led by Alexis Ireland with her 25 points. This came in one point shy of her single-game career high that she set last season. Ireland also continues to rack up the rebounds, pulling down 17 boards with an even 8-9 split of offensive and defensive. She also added six steals and four assists.
Camryn Ala had a breakout game coming in behind Ireland with her 14 points. Ala had two three pointers and went 4-4 from the free throw line. This sets a single game high in her career beating her previous high of seven points.
Anaira Ayala also had 12 points, supporting Ireland and Ala's scoring efforts.
The Owls fall to 0-3 and will try to get in the win column as they take on Norwich University on Saturday for a 1pm start.
