Terriers Complete the Series Sweep Over Owls

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WATERVILLE, ME — UMPI (1-11) would finish their four-game set over Thomas (8-11) with two seven inning games on Monday afternoon.

Game 1 (9-5 Terriers)

How it happened:

UMPI shook off the lopsided scores from the prior day and competed throughout. Thomas drew first blood but UMPI took back control in the 2nd and 3rd innings and went up 5-2. From there it was UMPI's game to lose. Thomas came roaring back with a game tying home run in 5th inning and eventually delivered the dagger in the 6th with a three-run shot.

At the Plate

UMPI had a more well-balanced attack in this game getting base runners on throughout the order. Anthony Searels was the only batter with two hits in the lineup. Romeo Harris had a double while Joey Lippo had an RBI triple in the 2nd inning to put UMPI ahead. UMPI totaled just five hits but stayed in it throughout. Unfortunately for the Owls they couldn't string anything together in the latter innings.

On the Mound

Sophomore Garrett Chadwick made the start at Thomas. Chadwick earned the win the last time he threw over Thomas. He proved again he could keep UMPI in the game and threw all six innings. He didn't run into grave trouble until the fifth and six innings when Thomas did damage with the long ball.

Game 2 (27-3 Terriers)

How it happened:

Thimas would finish the weekend with an exclamation mark, hanging 27 runs on the Owls. They had a six run, an eight run, and a nine running inning. UMPI scored one in the 1st, and one in the 5th and 6th. The owls left runners on base early which left little room for error from the start.

At The Plate:

Garret Chadwick stayed red-hot going 3-4 with a double and an RBI. Chadwick would finish the four game series going 7 for 13 at the plate. Ricky Goupille had the other multi-hit game for UMPI going 2 for 2. Anthony Searels and Joey Lippo had the other hits giving UMPI their total of seven.

On the Mound

Thomas' bats proved to be too much for UMPI's pitching staff as the Owls would use five pitchers throughout the game. Payton Jones and Mason Long each threw two innings. Spencer Harman made an appearance throwing the 5th inning, along one earned while Joey Lippo finished the game out allowing two earned.
UMPI falls to 1-13 after the four game NAC series while Thomas improves to 10-11.

Next up
: UMPI will continue their six game road trip with a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader against U-Maine Farmington. Games to begin at 1pm and will be played at Bridgton Academy in Bridgton, Maine.
