PRESQUE ISLE, ME
After a tough couple of games, the University of Maine at Presque Isle Women's Soccer team took a step back in the right direction on Tuesday afternoon when they hosted the University of Maine Farmington Beavers. The Owls earned their first lead since they upset MMA on September 14
th, scoring early to make it 1-0. The possession hovered around 50-50 for the first ten minutes or so, until Farmington took almost complete control of the game from there. The Beavers scored to tie it up in the 53
rd minute. From there, UMF continued to have most of the possession time, but the Owls fended the attack off and the game ended in a draw.
The Beavers outshot the Owls 19-5. UMPI put all 5 of their shots on target, on the day while UMF put 14 of their 19 on goal.
Mia Voisine was sharp yet again in net for UMPI, stopping 13 shots and bringing her season total to 68 saves for an average of over 11 per game.
UMPI's defense was stellar with
Amelia Ivey and
Monica McLaughlin leading the charge to keep the ball out of the danger zone.
UMPI's offensive production came from a familiar face.
Madelynn Morrow got back in the scoring column in the 9
th minute to give UMPI the lead on a breakaway opportunity. It was Morrow's fourth goal of the season as she continues to lead the Owls in that category.
Alexis Ireland put two shots on goal as she leads in that department, while
Ella McCarthy fired a great shot in the first half that took an amazing save to keep it out of the net.
UMPI improves to 1-2-1 in NAC action and remain securely in the playoff hunt on the East side. They will host Thomas College this coming Saturday, September 28
th for a 3:30pm start and look to continue that playoff charge.
