The UMPI Women's Basketball team hosted their third straight home game on Wednesday night when they brought in the UMFK Bengals for a 7:30pm start. UMPI was hit early by UMFK's ability to deny every passing lane which created a lot of turnovers and a lot of fast break baskets for the Bengals. They wore down the shorthanded Owls and cruised to an 83-25 victory.
How it Happened:
As mentioned, UMFK made a living on creating turnovers and fast breaks. They had 35 points off turnovers throughout the night, but they also pounded it inside as they had 52 points in the paint, as well as 19 second chance points. The Bengals were physical juggernaut as well, as they defended the inside very well forcing UMPI outside. All of this hurt the Owls, but what hurt them even more is that the Bengals shot 50% from the field overall, including a 59% clip in the first half.
Top Performers:
UMPI was led by Karen Marshall who had nine points, tying her previous career high from last season. Marshall went 4-11 from the field overall in her 25 minutes played. Aleyah Matheson played for 38 minutes, scoring eight points, a tick behind Marshall.
Next Up:
The Owls will drop to 1-2 overall and will host the University of Southern Maine on Saturday at 2pm to round out their first semester home schedule.
