The UMPI Women's Soccer team opened up their conference slate of four straight home games on Saturday afternoon when they hosted the University of Maine at Farmington Beavers. Unfortunately for the Owls it would be tough sledding all day, as the red hot UMF offense rolled into Park Family Field.
How it Happened:
That red hot attack wasted no time in getting on the board when they scored barely two minutes into the game. The shots were coming in early and often at UMPI's keepers, but the Owls were able to play damage control until the 21st minute when UMF made it 2-0. They scored twice more before the half was over to make it 4-0 as the Owls went into halftime searching for answers. 15 first half shots by the Beavers prompted UMPI to pack everybody on their half even more.
In the second 45 minutes, UMF scored five minutes in to make it 5-0 on an improbable angle off the left flank. They'd score two more times throughout the game in the 66th and the 75th minute. UMF's Emma Dunn and Kyri Meak each had a pair of goals.
Top Performers:
UMPI's two keepers were the only players to log stats on the day, as Natalie Miranda started the game, making four saves as she faced a serious barrage in the first half. It wasn't easier for backup Michaela Carney—she made nine saves in the second half as UMF dialed more in on frame.
Next Up:
UMPI will look to regroup and recover as their schedule doesn't get any easier this weekend. Lesley University comes north tomorrow fresh off a draw with the defending NAC Champion, Husson eagles earlier Saturday.
