UMPI Women's Soccer has been frustratingly close time in and time out their last few games, but this homecoming weekend, the Owls fell in a close one to VTSU-Johnson before getting in the win column with a dominant 10-0 victory over VTSU-Lyndon.
Saturday: 1-0 Badgers
How it Happened:
UMPI seemed to match up well with the Vermont-State Johnson Badgers, as they played excellent defense and goalkeeping to keep themselves from falling behind early. In the first half, Johnson had 12 shots to UMPI's one, courtesy of Ella McCarthy. But the game remained scoreless into halftime. In the second half, Johnson was able to break the tie, when Moriah Stefanik scored her seventh goal of the season not to far into the second half in the 53rd minute. The Badgers stayed consistent, with 12 more shots in the second half, but the Owls were unable to find any good looks to try and even the game. Johnson took their one goal, and ran with it, taking the 1-0 NAC victory.
Top Performers:
Michaela Carney was excellent in goal again for the Owls, making 12 saves throughout 84 minutes of play. Natalie Miranda became the keeper for the final seven minutes, making a save as well.
Sunday: 10-0 Owls
How it Happened:
Although the Owls' offense struggled the day before, they bounced back in a huge way on Sunday afternoon. Kamryn Clavette scored her third and fourth goals of the season within two minutes of the game kicking off. Lyndon settled in and played good defense for the next 20 minutes before Camryn Ala scored her first of the season to make it 3-0 UMPI.
12 minutes later, Maggie Landeen got in on the action and two minutes after that, Kamryn Clavette completed her hat trick. It was as if you blinked, and the Owls had made it 5-0. The Owls weren't done in the first half however, as Junior defender Taylor Marston scored the first goal of her career. Abby Doughty then closed out the half for UMPI with goals in the 40th and 42nd minutes. Camryn Ala and Ella McCarthy each scored one more goal apiece in the second half as the Owls cruised with ease to a 10-0 victory over the Hornets for their first conference points of the season.
Top Performers:
First-year Kamryn Clavette continued her great rookie campaign with a hat trick bringing her to five total goals on the season. Abby Doughty and Camryn Ala each had a pair of goals. Ella McCarthy, Taylor Marston, and Maggie Landeen all had one goal. In the assists column, Camryn Ala led with two, while Isabelle Allen, Madison Bridges, Shelby Theriault, Olivia Gray, Maggie Landeen, and Ella McCarthy all had one as everyone had a chance to join in on the party.
Next Up:
The Owls will play Husson University for a single-game weekend this Saturday, down in Bangor, Maine as their conference schedule will slow down a bit for the next couple weeks.
