UMPI Men Back in Win Column as Offense Comes Alive

FORT KENT, ME

Two days removed from their six game winning streak having been snapped by Farmington, the UMPI Men's team washed it away and got back to their winning ways in this second semester with an offensive bounce-back performance at UMFK.

How it Happened:

UMPI was held to 62 points in both of their games this past weekend, with the Owls able to grind one of them out for a victory. Needless to say, their offense was starving for a fun night. That's exactly what they got against the UMFK Bengals.  It wasn't an easy game however, as Fort Kent kicked in gear right with them for much of the game. The Owls did play from ahead, but not by much. UMFK took their first lead with 7:26 in the first after at 30-28. They grew this up to 39-32 before UMPI got a spark with three-point shooting. Michael Brigman got it started, followed by James Yamshita, Yuki Ishibashi, and Tyson Enget as the Owls' shooters brought UMPI back in front at the half, 47-45.

The Bengals started out the second half with a three to take a one point lead, but then UMPI responded in a big way with a 13-1 run to take a 60-49 lead. UMPI's defense then dug their heels in keeping things a double-digit game for most of the remainder of the game. The Owls did what they do, in icing the game, actually expanding it to 86-71 with four minutes remaining, before cruising to the 14-point win, 91-77.

Top Performers:

UMPI's leading scorer Akhe McMichael led again for UMPI with 15 points. Yuki Ishibashi had 14 big ones off the bench including four threes as he begins to heat up from beyond the arc. Tyson Enget and AJ Creech each had 12 and four for UMPI. Aleix Moreno was also in double digits with 10. The Owls were led on the glass by Tariq Martin with nine points and eight rebounds as he flirted with a double-double. Doug McCalla had eight and seven as well.

Next Up:

The Owls improve to 9-11 overall and will look to inch even closer to .500 when they host Husson University in the biggest game of the year this Saturday at 1 p.m.
