DELHI, NY
For the UMPI Women's Basketball team it was one quarter that left them scratching their heads as they dropped a conference matchup at SUNY Delhi on Friday night. An 18-5 frame became too much of a deficit for UMPI to overcome in the fourth despite the Owls holding the Broncos to just two points in the last quarter. The Broncos took the game 58-39
How it Happened:
The first quarter was tight, at 14-11 Delhi. The last time the two teams met, UMPI rallied back from 17 points down, only to lose by three in the end. So coming from behind wasn't an unfamiliar position for the Owls. The deficit grew by halftime as Delhi outscored UMPI 18-11 in the second quarter to go up by ten going into the locker room.
The third quarter proved pivotal, as UMPI's offense went dry right as Delhi began to really heat up. A 24-5 discrepancy in favor of the home team put UMPI down by 29, on the road going into the fourth. Despite the insurmountable odds, the Owls' defense played out of their minds, holding Delhi to just two points in the final quarter. Despite this great effort, their offense couldn't muster enough to get any closer as Delhi won by a final score of 58-39.
Top Performers:
Lindsay Hamilton led the way with 12 points and 13 rebounds across her 22 minutes. Nevaeh Bello was next closest with nine points and 11 rebounds as she added another double-double. Aleyah Matheson had seven points as well for UMPI.
