Box Score CAMBRIDGE, MA – Despite a fantastic effort by junior Amanda Hotham (Fort Fairfield, ME), the University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls (0-8) fell just short of their first win of the season for the second day in a row. Lesley University (1-7) was able to hold on for a 59-54 win.
Though the Lynx took the lead with three minutes left in the first quarter and never lost it, they couldn't shake the Owls who were playing their third consecutive game in as many days. The biggest lead of the day came in the third quarter, when Lesley took a brief eight point lead, but UMPI kept fighting back. A seven point lead going into the fourth quarter quickly evaporated and the University of Maine at Presque Isle found themselves down 51-49 with under a minute to play when Holli Boyce (FR, Stonington, ME) hit a jump shot. The Owls would not be able to convert on multiple opportunities down the stretch and the Lynx would hit their free throws to seal their first victory of the season.
Hotham would have the hot hand on the night, finishing with a remarkable 24 points and twenty rebounds. Theresa Pereira (SO, Hopedale, MA) would lead Lesley with twenty points.
The Owls will return home and host Thomas College before they take a break for the Holidays. That game will be on Sunday, December 13th with a scheduled tip off at 1 PM.
