Presque Isle, ME – The Owls women's basketball team left with a win in a tight game vs North Atlantic Conference Divisional opponent Thomas College. The Terriers of Thomas, fell to the Owls 52-48 in the back and forth play throughout the entire game as there were nine lead changes and eight ties throughout the 40 minute game.

The Owls found themselves down by five in the end of the first quarter as they struggled shooting early, 0-5 from the three. A quick bounce back for the Owls as they gained the lead by half, 30-28, shooting 41% from the field. Both team defense stepped it up in the second half as the low scoring third ended with the game tied 40 all. The Owls continued to step up their play in the fourth as Emily Wheaton (Presque Isle, ME) finished the game with a late game layup and 4-4 shooting from the free throw line to seal the win.

It was Alexis Ireland (Howland, ME) who led the Owls on both ends of the floor as she grabbed a career high 20 rebounds, seven offensive, to go along with her 13-point night off 4-10 shooting and a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. Wheaton ended the game with 16 points to go with her five rebounds and four assists.

The Owls will host Thomas College in another match up tomorrow at 3:00pm.
