Box Score 2 Farmington, ME – The Owls swept the UMF Beavers 6-1 in game 1 (7-inning) and a season high 18 runs to UMF's five in game two's 9-inning match up. This brings the Owls to 3-3 in the North Atlantic Conference while the University of Maine at Farmington now sit 4-6 in the NAC as the post season closes in.
Game 1 (6-1 – Owls):
How it happened:
With Steed Outler (Flower Mound, TX) on the mound for the Owls, the team's defense held up strong throughout the game only allowing one run in the second inning by the Beavers. The Owls scoring started off early with a run in the first, coming of a couple hits, and then scoring off an error. With the game tied in the fourth, the Owls brought in another run off a SAC fly bringing Baily Corley (Lake Stevens, WA) home. A double by Timothy Burns (Green Cove Springs, FL) brought Payton Jones (Green Cove Springs, FL) home for the Owls third run in the fifth. UMPI put the game away in the seventh, Nicholas Perfitt (Houlton, ME) brought two runs in off a single to left field. Tanner Veillieux (Belfast, ME) followed with another single to bring Nathan Church (Dover Foxcroft, ME) in for the final run of the game.
On the mound:
Outler (3-5) earned his third win of the year, pitching the complete game. Earning five strikeouts, walking one and only letting up six hits and one run. Will Harriman (1-2) pitched the first six innings for the Beavers, letting up two earned runs and eight hits.
At the plate:
Three Owls led with two hits on the game, finishing the seven innings with ten hits as a team. Perfitt and Veillieux led the Owls with two RBI's. Weillieux, Corley and Burns were the Owls to finish with two hits as Burns also scored two runs and one RBI.
Game 2 (18-5 – Owls):
How it happened:
The Owls came out the gates rolling with a huge 8-run first to start of their season high 18-run game. Six hits and forcing two errors allowed the Owls to get their eight runs early. Singles by Nicholas Perffit (Houlton, ME), Anthony Searels (Middleburg, FL) and Ricky Goupille (Presque Isle, ME) each brought in two runs off their hits, earnig two RBI's each early (Perffit with one RBI and forcing an error). A wild pitch and another Beavers error brought the remaining two runs home. A two-run homer by the Beavers gave them some light in the first before the Owls poured on three more runs in the second. A single, a walk and a wild pitch brought those runs in. The Owls letting up no hits and only one walk for the remaining four innings after that homer, led by Kaiden Crowley (Jonesport, ME), kept the Beavers scoreless. During which the Owls scored another run off an error in the fifth and three more runs in the sixth. These three runs coming off three straight doubles by Searels, Joey Blake (Standardsville, VA) and Payton Jones (Green Cove Springs, FL). The Beavers were able to bring in three more runs in the remainder of the nine-inning game while the Owls scored another run in the eighth.
On the mound:
Crowley (2-2) pitched the first seven innings of the game, allowing just six hits and five earned runs. Ian McCray and Dakota Morrow each pitched an inning to end the game. Five Beavers players made an appearance on the mound.
At the plate:
The Owls hit a season high 25 hits in the game, led by Blake's five for five game. Hitting a double, scoring three runs and one RBI. Timothy Burns (Green Cove Springs, FL) and Perfitt finished the game with four hits off seven at bats. Ten Owls player finished the game with a hit and or a walk on the game. Searels led the team with three of the Owls 14 RBI's.
The Owls will continue their NAC schedule as we head to the final weeks of the regular season. The Owls will take on Husson University in a weekend of doubleheaders. These games are hosted by the Owls but played at the Eagles fields, where the Owls will celebrate their senior day.
