Owls Take Down the Beavers

Box Score PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Women's Basketball Team improved their season record to 10-6 with a 74 to 47 North Atlantic Conference win over rival UMaine-Farmington Friday evening in the first of back to back weekend games with the visiting Beavers.

Chantel Williams got the Owls on the scoreboard early with a longer jumper from the corner 15 seconds into the game and drained a 3 pointer two minutes later to give UMPI a 5 to 2 advantage. Lauren Magno knocked down a 3pointer from the wing on a feed from Kourtney West to close out the 1st Quarter scoring in a back and forth 10 minutes of play that saw the Owls take a 19 to 15 lead into the time out.

A Jayln Stacey layup on an assist from Victoria Garand had the Beavers within 5 points at the 8:07 mark of the 2nd Quarter, trailing 24 to 19.  With 4 minutes remaining in the Quarter Emily Wheaton drilled a long 3 pointer. Aleia Milano scored in transition before Wheaton scored another 2 on a drive to the rim and UMPI quickly built a 39 to 24 lead and the Owls ended the 1st half with the lead and score of 46 to 24.

Both teams were quiet in the first 2 minutes of the 2nd half before Alexis Ireland scored on a nice move inside. Wheaton buried 2 free throws and Ireland scored again in the post and UMPI jumped out to a 52 to 24 lead and cruised to the victory.

Emily Wheaton scored 22 points and had 5 steals in 28 minutes of play. Alexis Ireland had 14 points and 5 rebounds and Kourtney West scored 11 points and pulled down a game high 14 rebounds. Aleia Milano recorded a game high 8 assists and Chantel Williams added 9 points, 3 assists and 4 steals. Victoria Garand led the Beavers with 11 points and Jacqui Hamilton added 9. Ruby McMinis added 8 points and 5 rebounds.

The same two Teams will square off again on Saturday at 1:00 PM
