Owls Compete Against Falcons in Doubleheader

SAUGUS, MASSACHUSETTS – The Owls competed in another doubleheader in Mass. Hosted by the Fisher College Falcons, the Owls fell in both games 12-3 in the first and 12-6 in the final game of the weekend.

In the first game of the day, it was Spencer Harman on the mound for the Owls and Ronald Luke for the Falcons. The Falcons started the scoring first in the second off a sac fly and a single to give them a two run lead. A Joey Blake sac fly brought Anthony Searels home for the Owls first run of the day. With the score at 2-1 the Falcons started a rally with a five-run third inning, a two-run fourth and a two-run fifth to bring the game to 11-1. A double by Payton Jones in the sixth and a single by Searels gave UMPI two more runs, although it was not enough as the Falcons added another run in the sixth.

The second game started off with the Falcons taking a two-run lead in the first. Joey Blake and Joey Lippo each hit an RBI single to bring in a run, adding another one off a Falcons throwing error, and the Owls take the 3-2 lead. The Falcons bounced right back with a pair of homers to take a 6-3 lead in the third. Again it was the Owls that bounced back with two runs in the fourth off a Single by Timothy Burns. The Falcons would put up six more runs in the game to the Owls one more off a Garrett Chadwick single, eventually taking the win. Payton Jones pitched for the Owls, pitching the first five innings before Mason Long relieved him. Jan Melendez earned the win for the Falcons.

The Owls will head back to Presque Isle before heading back down to Massachusetts for another pair of doubleheaders, this time against Lesley University.
