LEXINGTON, MA – The Lesley University baseball team won both games of the doubleheader, 11-2 and 10-1, over UMPI Sunday at Minutemen Tech Field. The Lynx is now 8-9, while the Owls fall to 1-15.
In game one, Lesley did all of their scoring in the first five innings of play. After a scoreless first inning, The Lynx scored a run in the second frame, four runs in the third, a pair in the fourth, and four more times in the fifth.
The Owls ended the shutout by scoring a pair of runs in the sixth frame. After a lineout by Garett Chadwick (Brighton, CO), Joey Blake (Stanardsville, VA) walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. Blake scored moments on a two-run homer to right by Timothy Burns (Green Cove Springs, FL).
In the second game, the Lynx broke the game wide open with six runs in the sixth inning. With the score 4-0 after four innings, the Owls scored their run in the top of the fifth. Chadwick led off the frame with a single to left. Chadwick stole second and moved to third on an infield groundout by Blake. Chadwick scored moments later on a wild pitch.
Game 1 (11-2 – Lynx):
On the mound:
Dylan Langston (Chesapeake, VA) picked up the win as he threw the first four innings. Langston gave up one hit while striking out three. Patrick Teasdale (Stamford, CT) pitched the next two innings for the Lynx, and Nate Trudnich San Pedro, CA) closed out the game for Lesley. Dakota Marrow (Presque Isle, ME) took the loss as the Owls hurler threw the first three innings. Jordan Young (Graham, NC) pitched the next two innings, while Brock Thompson (Cary Plt, ME) pitched the final inning.
At the plate:
Adam Budorick (Glenview, IL) and Jake Samela (West Hartford, CT) each had three hits for the Lynx. Teammates James Brandon (Manhattan Beach, CA) and Andrew Gryniewicz (Hollis, NH) had a pair of tallies for Lesley. Colby Jacobs (Charlton, MA) had a two-run homer in the fifth to closeout the Lynx scoring. Burns (homer) and Payton Jones (Green Cove Springs, FL) had the hits for the Owls.
Game 2 (10-1 – Lynx):
On the mound:
Brian Jacobus (Port St Lucie, FL) picked up the victory for Lesley as he pitched six innings, and scattered four hits while striking out eight along the way. Jaedon Harris (Stafford, VA) pitched the seventh. Jones suffered the loss as he pitched 5 ? innings for the Owls. Spencer Harmon (Sidney, BC, Canada) and Branden Oliver (Lincoln, ME) combined to get the last Lynx out.
At the plate:
Justin Dennett (Fairfield, CT) had three hits for Lesley while Budorick and Colin McCarthy (Rehoboth, MA) chipped in with two apiece for the Lynx. Brandon had a three-run homer in the sixth. Burns had two hits for UMPI. Chadwick and Blake had the other two hits for the Owls. Lesley outhit UMPI 27-6 for the entire day.
The Owls will head to Auburn, ME next Saturday, and close out their non-conference schedule with a doubleheader at Central Maine Community College.
