Owls Battle with Beavers in NAC Doubleheader

FARMINGTON, MAINE – The Owls baseball team continued their North Atlantic Conference stretch, playing in a weekday doubleheader vs the University of Maine at Farmington. The Beavers of UMF took the sweep winning the first game 1-11 and a 1-2 extra inning win in the second game, despite another tough showing on the mound for Payton Jones.

Game 1: 1-11 Terriers

The teams came out with a quick back and forth as the Terriers scored the first run of the day in the first inning, coming off a sacrifice fly. The Owls quickly answered in the top of the second as Mason Long hit an RBI single to bring in Preston Bass. The Beavers scored a quick four runs in the third, including a three run homer. Another homer in the fourth brought in another two runs in the fourth, later adding four more runs in the fifth inning.

The Owls were able to get nine hits on the game, although leaving ten runners on and unable to put runs on the scoreboard. The Beavers finished the game with 13 hits, Morris earned the win on the mound. Dakota Morrow pitched the first four innings for the Owls, giving up nine hits and seven earned runs.

Game 2: 1-2 Terriers

Payton Jones found himself in another pitching battle with the NAC opponent, pitching the first seven innings, allowing just three hits, one earned run and striking out five batters. Goschke pitched for the Beavers, earning the win in his complete game, allowing six hits, striking out seven batters and allowing zero earned runs.

The Owls scored first in the third inning off a Joey Blake single, bringing Garrett Chadwick home for the game's first run. It wasn't until the sixth inning where the Beavers tied the game of an RBI double. Jones was relieved on the mound in the 8th inning as Jordan Young was unable to close out the 8th as the Beavers scored on an RBI single to walk off the game and completing the sweep.
 

UMPI will face off against Husson University next Saturday 22nd in Bangor, ME.
