McLaughlin Earns 2nd in Javelin in NAC Championships

WATERVILLE, MAINE – The Owls Women's track & field team competed in the North Atlantic Conference Championships this past weekend. The Owls team finished 7^th of the 8 teams competing in the meet. Monica McLaughlin led the Owls with a second place finish in the Javelin, earning NAC All-Conference Second Team honors.

McLaughlin was the Owls high scorer on the day, totaling 9.75 points for the Owls. Her 31.68m throw earned her the second place finish in the Javelin, also finishing eighth in the long jump with a 4.18m jump, and helping her 4x100m teammates to a sixth place finish. Katelyn Osborne finished fourth in the 800m run with a time of 2:32.48, while also being a part of the Owls 4x100m relay. Lexi Rodriguez and Chantel Williams were the other runners for the Owls in the 4x100. Williams also finished fifth in the long jump with a 4.57m jump and eighth in the 100m final with a 14.14 time.

Coach comments:
Illness and minor injuries may have hampered our point totals and thus finishing us in seventh place of the eight teams competing. No excuses, though, as I thought we had a legitimate shot at sixth even though the pre-championship poll did, in fact, predicted us to be seventh. Monica McLaughlin's gutsy javelin performance was perhaps the strongest performance of the day with her earning conference second team honors. I'm proud of all our athletes' even though they will not be going to New England's with Monica. They've worked hard all season and have performed admirably.

Notes: Monica McLaughlin will attend the NCAA D3 New England Championships next week at Springfield College, Springfield, MA. She will be representing the university in the javelin.
