Owls Back in Win Column, Off to Best Start in a Decade

LEWISTON, ME

The UMPI Owls Men's Basketball team got back in the win column Saturday afternoon, this time taking down their NESCAC opponent, the Bates College Bobcats. UMPI makes it two in a row over Bates having defeated them in Presque Isle a season ago.

How it Happened:

UMPI fell behind in the first five minutes trailing 15-7, UMPI made a 17-4 following this however, jumping ahead by five. They maintained the lead as they closed out the half with a nine point lead 39-30. This lead proved to be enough as the Owls closed out the game, never trailing in the second half. They shot exceptionally well throughout the day, going 50% from the field, and also shot the three-ball well going 9 for 17.

Top Performers:

Dwaine Williams had his UMPI Career high, leading all scorers with his 19 points. Williams knocked down five treys as well. Gilbert Jean Mendez contributed mightily as well, with 18 points and seven rebounds as well as three assists.  Supporting the top two scorers were Akhe McMichael and Doug McCalla each with eight points, and they combined for 10 boards also.

Next Up:

The Owls improve to 4-2 on the season and are off to their best start through six games under Dan Kane, and best as a program since the 2014-2015 season. They will now move back to UMPI for a stretch of three games, starting on December 1st when they play host to the University of New England for a 12pm start.
