BANGOR, ME
The UMPI Women's Basketball team opened up their North Atlantic Conference schedule with a tough opponent. The Owls traveled down on Friday to take on the Husson Eagles. UMPI was on the heels of their first win of the season, a big 74-26 victory over the Fisher College Falcons. Husson was coming off an 80-52 loss to the Nation's #5 Ranked Bowdoin College. Unfortunately for UMPI, Husson was lights out.
How it Happened:
The Eagles came out firing early after UMPI drew first blood with an early three-ball. The Eagles scored the next nine. The Owls battled to keep it close in the first quarter, but Husson closed it out strong, with 27 points to UMPI's 13 after one. This pattern was nearly replicated in the second quarter, with the Eagles firmly in control 48-25 at half. The Eagles went deep into their bench early with multiple wholesale substitutions. No one on Husson's squad played more than 20 minutes, as 17 different players played nine minutes or more. The Eagles let up a little bit in the second half but still cruised to the victory as they scored a season high 89 points to UMPI's 53.
Top Performers:
Alexis Ireland continues to lead the Owls, as she had 18 points. 12 of the 18 came from the free-throw line. She also had 13 rebounds to lead the Owls. Camryn Ala had her career high 15 points, going 6-12 from the field and 3-5 from three-point range. Anaira Ayala had 11 points and seven rebounds for UMPI, and Amelia Ivey pulled down 7 rebounds as well.

The Owls fall to 1-7 overall, and will wrap-up semester number one with another NAC game, as they visit the University of Maine-Farmington Beavers on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
