PRESQUE ISLE, ME
The University of Maine at Presque Isle Women's basketball team picked up their first one of the season Saturday, when they hosted the Fisher Falcons. The Owls looked to make it a fifth win in a row over the Falcons dating back to 2022 and did so by getting off to a fast start. They'd lead wire-to-wire and pick up a commanding 74-26 victory over the visitors.
How it Happened:
The broke the scoring open early, but the game stayed close through the first five minutes with UMPI in front 9-4. They'd go on a 19-1 run to end the first quarter firmly in front 28-5. The Owls slowed down a little in the second quarter but had a stress-free lead at 42-11 at halftime. A 21-2 third quarter highlighted their second half as UMPI cruised to their first victory of the season in front of their home fans.
Top Performers:
The Owls continue to be led by Alexis Ireland who put up another strong performance of 23 points and 17 rebounds, adding to her already impressive numbers on the season. Anaira Ayala contributed 16 points, going 4-8 from bonus distance. Jovanna Oliva and Camryn Ala had nine and eight points respectively. Ala had six boards. Alexis Engel and Faith Graham also contributed on the glass, carding five rebounds each. Nine players go their name in the scorebook, as UMPI played very well as a unit.

The Owls will begin their conference schedule when they visit the Husson Eagles on Friday night for a 5:30 p.m. tip off.
