Owls Earn First NAC Win - UMPI Split with Beavers

BRIDGTON, ME — UMPI (1-13) took on familiar foe Farmington for a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader played at Bridgton Academy in western Maine. 

Game 1 (9-8 Beavers)


How it happened: 

After a tough four games at Thomas the Owls got off to a rough start surrendering six runs in the 1st inning. UMPI was able to respond however, with four runs of their own the next half. UMPI would eventually take the lead with a three run 4th to go up 8-7. In the Bottom of the sixth the Beavers were able to manufacture a couple runs in the bottom of the sixth to retake the lead. A lead they wouldn't surrender. 

At the Plate:

The Owls had many heroes at the plate in both games. Garrett Chadwick stayed hot at the plate going 2 for 5 with 2 RBI. Four other hitters had two hits for UMPI. Those included Tim Burns, Joey Blake, Romeo Harris and Ricky Goupille. Romeo Harris had 3 RBI as well. 

On the Mound:

Dakota Morrow made the start for the Owls and would go the distance. Other than the first inning, Morrow was able to pitch out of many jams. He finished the game with six innings pitched and three strikeouts, keeping UMPI in it the entire way.

Game 2 (12-4 Owls)


How it happened:

The second game of the season series would be a nine-inning affair. UMPI would fall behind in the second game as well, as the Beavers scored three runs in the second inning. UMPI fired back with six runs in the next frame. UMF made it 6-4 in the next inning before UMPI continued to slam the door the rest of the game while adding to their lead, eventually prevailing for their first NAC win 12-4.

At the Plate:

The theme of team hitting continued in this second game. Joey Lippo went 3-6 with a double. Romeo Harris and Anthony Searels each had two doubles while combining for seven runs scored total. Burns, Searels and Goupille each had two RBI as well. 

On the mound: 

Spencer Harman had a career outing, and one of the most impressive performances for UMPI baseball in recent history. Harman would pitch out of trouble in the 2nd inning and got in a groove from there. He would toss a complete game, allowing three earned runs. Harman struck out three batters and threw 123 pitches, leaving it all out there and earning is first career win. 
UMPI moves to 2-14 overall and 1-5 in league play after the doubleheader split. Farmington moves to 5-18 overall and 1-5 in conference.

: UMPI will continue their six game road trip with a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader against U-Maine Farmington. Games to begin at 1pm and will be played at Bridgton Academy in Bridgton, Maine.
