Strong First Half Not Enough as Owls Fall to Mariners

CASTINE, ME

The UMPI Women entered their final two games of the season with a conference matchup against Maine Maritime Academy down in Castine, Maine. The Owls played a strong defensive first half after making an adjustment quick before the Mariners attack proved too much in the second half.

How it Happened:

MMA threatened early and often, firing a barrage of shots at Michaela Carney before scoring in the 9th minute and ten minutes later in the 19th minute. Though it seemed like the boat race was on, UMPI responded nicely, as they cleared opportunity after opportunity to keep the Mariners at bay. The Owls held them scoreless for the rest of the first half and had a chance in the 35th minute though it was saved by MMA keeper Isa Thesing.

In the second half, the Mariners called game within seven minutes as they scored twice in a row to go up 4-0 and all but seal it. They'd score again in the 66th, 71st and 76th minutes to get to the final score of 7-0. The Owls had two shots, both of them on goal as a team.

Top Performers:

Kamryn Clavette had both of UMPI's shots, once in the 35th minute, and another in the 59th minute, which were both of UMPI's big chances to score. Michaela Carney had another busy day, making 14 saves in goal for UMPI.

Next Up:

The Owls will play their final game of the 2025 season at home for their senior day against Thomas College. That game will begin at noon with the Senior Day ceremony for Camryn Ala and Olivia Gray taking place right before the game.
