The UMPI Women's Soccer team took to their home pitch, the third time in five days on Wednesday afternoon, when they hosted UMaine Augusta. Last time out down in Augusta, the Owls dominated possession time most of the game but fell 1-0, they wanted to be sure they didn't suffer a similar fate.
How it Happened:
The game started out more 50/50 possession time as both teams showed how they've improved since their last matchup on August 31st. UMPI did threaten more early on however, with five shots on goal through the first 18 minutes. Eventually in the first half, that finally yielded results for the Owls, as Camryn Ala found Kamryn Clavette, as she snuck behind the defense and stayed onsides narrowly, before settling Ala's pass and striking at the right time with UMA's keeper coming off her line. Clavette logged her first collegiate goal and the Owls celebrated as they jumped in front.
UMPI took that 1-0 lead into halftime, and they'd take it with them much longer than that. UMA began to threaten more often in the second half as did the Owls, but the game stayed in a stalemate. Just when it appeared UMPI was destined to coast to their first victory of the year, the Moose struck in the 83rd minute. A shot from way outside of the box, once again doomed UMPI, this time tying the game.
Less than a minute later, the Owls dodged a bullet as the Moose nearly struck again, but they'd play solid defense down the stretch to thwart anything else as the game ended a 1-1 draw.
Top Performers:
Kamryn Clavette paced the Owls offensively as she had the aforementioned goal in the 38th minute. She also had six shots, and four of which were on target. Abby Doughty was also on the mark, with her four shots, and three on goal.
Camryn Ala had a shot on goal, but also that important assist on a great pass to Clavette.
Natalie Miranda was solid once again in goal for UMPI, again agonizingly close to a shutout. She made seven saves for the Owls, playing all 90 minutes.
As a team, UMPI outshot UMA 15-14 and 10-8 in shots on goal.
Next Up:
UMPI will have a couple days off before travelling to the greater Boston area to take on the Fisher College Falcons on Sunday for the second time this season in hopes to avenge their late 1-0 loss last time out.
