Owls Have No Answer for Poirier; Augusta

Box Score

BANGOR, ME (12-8-11) – The University of Maine-Augusta center Katie Poirier shot 11-12 from the floor en route to a monster 29 point, 15 rebound performance that helped hold off the University of Maine-Presque Isle, 66-57 on Thursday night on the UMA-Bangor campus.

While the 5'11 Poirier was a force inside, the Moose's (9-2) Jenn Lola was dialing it in from long distance, hitting 5-of-13 three point attempts and scoring 22 points.  The Owls (2-6) never led in the game but were never out of it either.  Always within six to ten points, Presque Isle went into the halftime locker room down seven, 32-25.

Playing their fifth game in seven days, UMPI struggled to put together a big enough run in the 2nd half to get back into the contest until the closing minutes when they pulled to within four.  But they would get no closer as the loss brings an end to the Owls modest two game winning streak.

Renee Moore (So./Lisbon, ME) led the way for UMPI scoring 12 points and hauling in 12 rebounds for her 2nd double-double of the season.  Olivia McNally (So./Sherman, ME) stayed hot finishing with 11 points, the third straight game in double figures for the sophomore guard.  Reigning USCAA Player of the Week Rashell Saucier (So./Washburn, ME) rounded out the trio of UMPI double-figure scorers with 11.

UMPI returns home on Saturday December 10th, when they will take on UMaine-Fort Kent.  Tip time is slated for 1:00pm.
