The University of Maine at Presque Isle competed in its final race of the 2024 regular season on Saturday as the men's & women's squads donned the Blue & Yellow at the Runnin' Monks Challenge hosted by Saint Joseph's College of Maine in Standish at the Monk XC Trail.

Junior
Westley Dyer and freshman
Angeline Beede snagged the top finishes for the Owl men & women, respectively. Dyer posted a 30:21 in the men's 8K race to place 12th on the leaderboard, while Beede had a 33:28 effort in the women's 6K race earning 25th-place. Throughout the regular season Dyer has guided the men; despite a tough outing last week Beede helped set a strong tone entering the conference meet in two weeks with strong effort.
Supporting Dyer was a flock of Owl men in
David Gustin (36:44, 32nd-place),
Isiah Mitchell (38:06, 35th-place),
Hector Perez (39:38, 36th-place),
Nick Anderson (44:56, 39th-place) & Joey Marrero (45:55, 52nd-place). The UMPI women backed Beede's lead with
Milaya Buchanan (34:56, 27th-place),
Serena Lufkin (35:06, 28th-place) and
Avery VonKadich (37:54, 33rd-place) performances working together throughout the race.
The Owls take on the postseason next time out as XC prepares for the 2024 North Atlantic Conference Championships hosted by SUNY Delhi in Delhi, N.Y., on November 2nd. The Owls will toe the line against NAC foes SUNY Delhi, Husson University, Lesley, Maine Maritime Academy, SUNY Canton, SUNY Cobblestone, SUNY Morrisville, SUNY Poly, Thomas College, UM-Farmington and Vermont State Lyndon. The men's 8k championship race will begin at 11 a.m. (EST), while the women's 6k championship race will take place right after with an approximate start at noon (EST).
