BANGOR, ME
The UMPI Cross Country squads were back in action on Saturday when they ran in the North Atlantic Conference Preview hosted by Husson University. The race took place on the same course that the North Atlantic Conference Championship will be on in less than a month.
Men:
Six runners ran for the Owls in this race, with Westley Dyer again leading the charge for UMPI. He finished the 8K race with a time of 33:05.5 for an average mile pace of 6:39. Dyer finished at 24th overall. Closing the gap on him was Isiah Mitchell who again finished second for UMPI and 27th overall. Mitchell finished just 32 seconds behind Dyer for a total time of 33:37.6 and a mile pace of 6:45. After Dyer and Mitchell, it was Kieran Everett, who finished 33rd, with a time of 36:08. Hector Perez finished 35th, running a mile pace of 7:32, while David Gustin finished 38th with a split of 8:01.
Overall, the Men finished in 5th place with a score of 136, 14 points behind the 4th place Husson Eagles who finished with 122 points.
Women:
Milaya Buchanan continues to improve with each passing race, finishing 16th in the women's 6K with a time of 31:14.3 and a mile pace of 8:22.7. Buchanan has finished first for the Owls in every race this season.
Next Up: The UMPI Women's team will compete down in Waterville this coming Wednesday, while both the Men and the Women will race again at the Thomas College Invitational on October 18th.
