Owls Walk-Off Game 1 - Splitting with the Hornets in NAC Play

Presque Isle, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls hosted their first games of the year at the James Dyer Field. In the North Atlantic Conference game vs the Vermont State Lyndon Hornets the Owls won the first game in walk off fashion, although the Hornets bounced back to split the day.

Game 1 (4-5 – Owls):

How it Happened:
The Owls string start got them in an early 3-0 lead through two innings. A pair of RBI singles by Joey Blake and Anthony Searels in the first inning, followed by an RBI double by Joey Lippo. As the bats went cold for the Owls, the Hornets mounted their comeback. Scoring runs in the third and fourth innings brought the game to a 3-3 tie. Then in the seventh and final inning, the Hornets scored to give them a lead. In the bottom of the 7th and the Owls down by one run, Timothy Burns started it off with a double. A walk by Joey Blake followed by a single from first year Romeo Harris loaded the bases with zero outs. Mason Long would later force a walked in run to tie it, leaving Ricky Goupille at the plate. Which he performed, hitting a single to give the Owls the walk off win.

On the Mound:
Jonah Baude earned his first win of the year, pitching the full seven innings, throwing 99 pitches. Finishing the day with three strikeouts and allowing just one earned run. His performance included a handful of saves, including getting out of the seventh inning allowing just one run despite bases loaded with no outs.

At the Plate:
Goupille, Lippo and Burns each finished the game with two hits each as the Owls totaled ten hits. With the Owls forcing seven walks on the game, and hitting hit five RBI's.  Burns and Blake each recorded a double while Goupille recorded a steal.
 
Game 2 (7-1 – Hornets):

How it Happened:
In the second game, the Owls bats got cold as the show was all Hornets. In the 9-inning game, the Hornets would score six runs in the first six innings, including a homer by E. Duncan. In the 9th, the Hornets added another run. Timothy Burns helped force an error in the bottom of the 9th to help bring in a run, although that would be UMPI's only run of the game.

On the Mound:
Dakota Morrow earned the start for the Owls, pitching the first six innings. In his time allowing six earned runs as he pitched 99 pitches. Ian McCray relieved him, pitching the final 3.0 innings, striking out two batters, allowing just four hits and one earned run.
