Presque Isle, ME, 9/10/11 – University of Maine-Presque Isle women's soccer forward Lainey Herring (Jr./Houlton, ME) scored a goal in each half of Saturday's 2-1 victory over Maine Maritime Academy.

For the now 3-0 Owls, it was an uncomfortable game much of the afternoon. Despite practically living on the Mariners' side of the field much of the game and getting off 7 times as many shots (28-4) MMA still managed to be tied 1-1 heading into the last 15 minutes of the contest.

Finally around the 11-minute mark, Herring took a pass from teammate Desiree Smith (Sr./Thomaston, ME), made a nimble move to get past Mariner goalie Taylor O'Malley, and trickled in the decisive score.

UMPI's home weekend continues tomorrow, Sunday September 11, 2011, when they will face UMaine-Farmington on campus at 12:00pm.
